Frequently asked questions

Why do I need mortgage advice?

Getting a mortgage is likely to be one of the biggest financial decisions you'll ever make, and it's important you make a choice that suits your circumstances. A mortgage adviser can search the market on your behalf and recommend the right deal for you.

How do I apply for a mortgage?

The process involves providing lots of information to lenders (and filling out a whole lot of forms). Being well prepared is key and can make the process move smoothly. For more guidance, check out our comprehensive guide.

How do I get a mortgage if I'm self-employed?

Being self-employed doesn't mean you can't get a mortgage. Ensuring your books are all up-to-date and keeping a clear record of your finances can help strengthen your position as a borrower. In this case, we'd recommend speaking with a mortgage adviser to find out what you need to do.

What is remortgaging?

Remortgaging is the process of taking out a new loan to cover your previous mortgage. Remortgaging can come with plenty of benefits, from releasing equity in your home to the potential to save money on your monthly repayments. Check out our remortgaging guide for more information.

What is protection?

Protection secures your family and home against the worst-case scenario. It's also important to note that your needs are likely to change throughout your life. Perhaps you're moving jobs, starting a family, or even downsizing. These are all things you need to consider when looking at protection.

Do I need to have a Will in place to get a mortgage?

No, having a Will in place is not a requirement for getting approved for a mortgage.

However, having a Will is generally recommended for everyone regardless of their mortgage situation. It ensures your wishes for your estate are carried out after you pass away, which can avoid complications for your loved ones during an already difficult time.

Samantha has been our mortgage advisor for 8 years and we come back to her every time. We feel so confident we're getting the best deal, but we mostly enjoy speaking to Sam! Not only the best mortgage advisor, Sam also feels like our life coach when we're going through these big moments!

Emma Snowden and Neil Roberts are honestly the best. I have used them for two transactions already. Whatever my situation at the time Neil was always able to find the right mortgage for me. Emma diligently followed up with the lender and made sure that my application was sucessful. Even if the application was not straightforward or if additional documents needed to be provided they followed through and with minimal input from me. Don't worry about geographical location either. I'm in Devon and Neil is in Yorkshire and yet this never stopped them supporting me.

I cannot recommend the Mortgage Advice Bureau highly enough. As anyone knows, securing a mortgage can be an incredibly stressful and overwhelming process, but the team made it feel absolute seamless. From day one, they helped, guided, and supported me through every single step. They took the time to truly understand my financial situation, explained all of my options in plain without the confusing jargon. Thanks to their expertise and efficiency, I now have my official mortgage offer in hand! What stood out the most: Clear Communication: I was never left wondering what the next step was; they kept me updated constantly. Expert Guidance: They handled all the heavy lifting and answered every question I had, no matter how small. Stress-Free Experience: They turned a daunting process into a smooth, straightforward journey. If you are looking for a broker that genuinely cares about getting you the best outcome, look no further than the Mortgage Advice Bureau. A special shoutout to Tom Hill and Lottie Baker.
