Frequently asked questions

Why do I need mortgage advice?

Getting a mortgage is likely to be one of the biggest financial decisions you'll ever make, and it's important you make a choice that suits your circumstances. A mortgage adviser can search the market on your behalf and recommend the right deal for you.

How do I apply for a mortgage?

The process involves providing lots of information to lenders (and filling out a whole lot of forms). Being well prepared is key and can make the process move smoothly. For more guidance, check out our comprehensive guide.

How do I get a mortgage if I'm self-employed?

Being self-employed doesn't mean you can't get a mortgage. Ensuring your books are all up-to-date and keeping a clear record of your finances can help strengthen your position as a borrower. In this case, we'd recommend speaking with a mortgage adviser to find out what you need to do.

What is remortgaging?

Remortgaging is the process of taking out a new loan to cover your previous mortgage. Remortgaging can come with plenty of benefits, from releasing equity in your home to the potential to save money on your monthly repayments. Check out our remortgaging guide for more information.

What is protection?

Protection secures your family and home against the worst-case scenario. It's also important to note that your needs are likely to change throughout your life. Perhaps you're moving jobs, starting a family, or even downsizing. These are all things you need to consider when looking at protection.

Do I need to have a Will in place to get a mortgage?

No, having a Will in place is not a requirement for getting approved for a mortgage.

However, having a Will is generally recommended for everyone regardless of their mortgage situation. It ensures your wishes for your estate are carried out after you pass away, which can avoid complications for your loved ones during an already difficult time.

After 2 different "we can help people with tricky situations" mortgage brokers tried to mortgage or new purchase and epically failed after attempting a multitude of lenders. I got in touch with MAB as a last ditch attempt, thankfully I got through to Nick Gent who literally had it sorted and mortgaged the property in 2 weeks OVER CHRISTMAS! He was even answering my calls at 6pm on Christmas Eve!! The guy is a miracle worker, His super calming demeanor when I was a total lunatic worrying about loosing the house got us onto the right people and we ended up getting the mortgage for the lower deposit, something we didn't even thing possible! Emma Pearson has been amazing, so easy to contact, answered all my worries and didn't stop hassling the lender to get us a swift answer! Working with this pair has been a breeze and I wish we would have not bothered with the New Homes Group or Haysto and come straight to the professionals- The Mortgage Advice Bureau!! Thank you Endlessly!

This was our 2nd time using Frances Walsh as our mortgage broker. The information we received was really helpful. All decision was made by us. From start to finish it only took us just over a fortnight to receive our mortgage offer. Will definitely be using again when our mortgage fixed rates are up!

Jack has been extremely helpful throughout this entire process. It’s my first time buying a house so I had no idea what was going on; he explained everything to me and somehow succeeded at making it all make sense. Super easy to contact and very willing to lend a hand with providing reports on my house viewings. I’d absolutely recommend :D
