Frequently asked questions

Why do I need mortgage advice?

Getting a mortgage is likely to be one of the biggest financial decisions you'll ever make, and it's important you make a choice that suits your circumstances. A mortgage adviser can search the market on your behalf and recommend the right deal for you.

How do I apply for a mortgage?

The process involves providing lots of information to lenders (and filling out a whole lot of forms). Being well prepared is key and can make the process move smoothly. For more guidance, check out our comprehensive guide.

How do I get a mortgage if I'm self-employed?

Being self-employed doesn't mean you can't get a mortgage. Ensuring your books are all up-to-date and keeping a clear record of your finances can help strengthen your position as a borrower. In this case, we'd recommend speaking with a mortgage adviser to find out what you need to do.

What is remortgaging?

Remortgaging is the process of taking out a new loan to cover your previous mortgage. Remortgaging can come with plenty of benefits, from releasing equity in your home to the potential to save money on your monthly repayments. Check out our remortgaging guide for more information.

What is protection?

Protection secures your family and home against the worst-case scenario. It's also important to note that your needs are likely to change throughout your life. Perhaps you're moving jobs, starting a family, or even downsizing. These are all things you need to consider when looking at protection.

Do I need to have a Will in place to get a mortgage?

No, having a Will in place is not a requirement for getting approved for a mortgage.

However, having a Will is generally recommended for everyone regardless of their mortgage situation. It ensures your wishes for your estate are carried out after you pass away, which can avoid complications for your loved ones during an already difficult time.

Daniel at the mortgage advice bureau has honestly been amazing from start to finish. He quickly helped understand my situation after being told by another mortgage provider (who wasn't my time for 2.5 months) that I wouldn't qualify for a mortgage for myself and my family. Daniel reassured and quickly came back with positive results which helped my whole situation overall and even better than expected! He was always available on my many queries on email or phone and kept me in the loop on every progression. Thank you again honestly , I will be definitely be using these again going forward on my shared ownership remortgage in the future and also recommending them to friends and family.

I have Emma Malcolm as my mortgage advisor and Kayleigh Tunnicliffe as the case manager. Like most people, I have found moving house to be very stressful and often the different teams you have to be in contact with make it so much harder than it needs to be. This was not the case with MAB. The communication has been fantastic (phone meetings, emails, a WhatsApp chat set up between myself and the advisor and case handler meaning that nothing was missed). This is my first experience of buying a house and Emma was great in finding the right mortgage for me and explaining everything so clearly. A lot of other people I have spoken to in this process have made me feel like I should know the ins and outs of it when I have no clue and it is very stressful but Emma really put me at ease and it was so worth having someone do the mortgage leg-work on my behalf! Out of everyone I have had to communicate with so far in the house-buying journey, MAB have been by far the best and easiest to work with! Thank you Emma and Kayleigh!

The service was great. James Barfoot was a pleasure to work with. From the first time we spoke he was honest about our situation and gave us a feeling of trust. The process went smooth and we got a mortage offer for the property we are looking to buy.
