Frequently asked questions

Why do I need mortgage advice?

Getting a mortgage is likely to be one of the biggest financial decisions you'll ever make, and it's important you make a choice that suits your circumstances. A mortgage adviser can search the market on your behalf and recommend the right deal for you.

How do I apply for a mortgage?

The process involves providing lots of information to lenders (and filling out a whole lot of forms). Being well prepared is key and can make the process move smoothly. For more guidance, check out our comprehensive guide.

How do I get a mortgage if I'm self-employed?

Being self-employed doesn't mean you can't get a mortgage. Ensuring your books are all up-to-date and keeping a clear record of your finances can help strengthen your position as a borrower. In this case, we'd recommend speaking with a mortgage adviser to find out what you need to do.

What is remortgaging?

Remortgaging is the process of taking out a new loan to cover your previous mortgage. Remortgaging can come with plenty of benefits, from releasing equity in your home to the potential to save money on your monthly repayments. Check out our remortgaging guide for more information.

What is protection?

Protection secures your family and home against the worst-case scenario. It's also important to note that your needs are likely to change throughout your life. Perhaps you're moving jobs, starting a family, or even downsizing. These are all things you need to consider when looking at protection.

Do I need to have a Will in place to get a mortgage?

No, having a Will in place is not a requirement for getting approved for a mortgage.

However, having a Will is generally recommended for everyone regardless of their mortgage situation. It ensures your wishes for your estate are carried out after you pass away, which can avoid complications for your loved ones during an already difficult time.

Great service received from Owen Cullen, who I contacted after Habito were unable to secure us a mortgage. Owen found a very competitive offer from a High Street bank with no fees, and got that application in quickly. Unfortunately, that bank also initially refused our mortgage (for a property with an annexe that was being used as an AirBnB). However, Owen and Beth Tovey (Case Manager), appealed the refusal decision and the bank relented and offered us the mortgage! Well done all at MAB and thank you!

All of the team were lovely to work with. Very kind and patient with a newcomer to the UK who was not familiar with how property purchase works in the UK.

Both Sharon and Clare have been amazing. They have quickly sorted out our remortgage with excellent communication and efficient service. Sharon also kindly sorted out the additional life insurance cover we needed as well. Would highly recommend using them.

I started with zero knowledge and Stuart talked me through various options once I'd gathered the relevant information. He provided excellent support very swiftly and was instrumental in securing the funds I needed to purchase my house. Without his invaluable help, I'm sure my journey would not have gone as smoothly, nor would I have secured such a good mortgage deal, . I have already recommended him to friends. Thank you!

Vickie has been amazing. She has helped us so much during such a stressful and daunting time as first time buyers. She has explained everything fully to us so that we understand she has made this experience that little bit easier and if we to need this again I would definitely go back to her. Would highly recommend her to anyone else.
