Our Trainee Adviser Scheme offers a fantastic opportunity to those starting out in finance, making a change, or simply looking to progress their career.

Andy Buchanan and Liz Brookhouse are just two of our current team who are involved in this programme.

We sat down with them to understand how the programme has benefited them both…..

LIZ BROOKHOUSE

Before we spoke with her, Liz offered her thanks for the chance to be part of the scheme: “I just want to say that I am truly grateful for the opportunity and to thank everyone for the amazing support and kind words.

I have so much admiration for everyone at MAB for making me feel so welcome. The structure, communication, and focus have been so refreshing.

I really appreciate the opportunity to expand my development and I'm excited to take everything on board and strive to deliver my absolute best”.

What attracted you to MAB Network Partner Scotland/the business?

Their reputation in the industry highlights amazing company values alongside s high level of investment in their superb training and development offering. They want to help shape careers and in turn, contribute to the overall productivity and success of the company.

Would you recommend the business as a good place to work and why?

Yes, absolutely, due to every person no matter seniority showing astounding support and actively taking an interest to ensure employee welfare. They are always striving to provide a happy work environment.

What makes us different in your opinion?

After working in the mortgage industry for three years, I feel that the level of communication is outstanding, and the time spent on training and development positively impacts productivity and efficiency.

What’s been your highlight to date?

Taking on the responsibility for the Remortgage team and the appreciation and support I have felt from my team and managers. It is good to hear that I am doing a good job and feel valued.

How would you describe your traineeship and progression from CRE (Customer Relations Expert)?

The training structure has fitted me perfectly, gaining experience of the customer-focused interaction has strengthened my communication skills and expanded my knowledge of mortgage criteria due to the diversity of the leads. The structure, in my opinion, is a gradual steppingstone, which shapes the development of an individual. In turn, this provides the experience and skills needed to perform at a high level when the time comes to move into the position of adviser.

How important has it been to have a career pathway?

It has been a major motivator and given me a great sense of incentive to have focus and direction.

ANDY BUCHANAN

At the time of writing, Andy has been with us for approx. 12 months. He began his career in our Customer Relations Team, before beginning the Trainer Programme after six months.

What attracted you to MAB Network Partner Scotland/the business?

While working my previous job with a bank I was becoming stagnant and looking for something new and exciting. I had previous colleagues make the move to MAB and they spoke about how enjoyable it was and the opportunities available.

Would you recommend the business as a good place to work and why?

I really enjoy working here. The atmosphere in the office is great and it motivates me to do my best every day. I’ve had great opportunities for progression and feel supported at every turn.

What makes us different in your opinion?

There is a great social aspect alongside the day-to-day role which helps build stronger relationships between teams and departments. This helps everyone strive towards the same goals.

What’s been your highlight to date?

As much as I love the day-to-day role, the highlights of working at MAB have to be the social and networking opportunities. I’ve really enjoyed taking part in things like the business 5-a-sides tournaments and developing relationships with new lead sources. I don’t imagine I’d get such good opportunities elsewhere.

How would you describe your traineeship and progression from CRE (Customer Relations Expert)?

The opportunity to go on the adviser programme has been excellent for me. As soon as I joined MAB I wanted to progress to adviser and this programme was a great way to do it. The experience of being a CRE first helped me understand all aspects of the customer journey and developed my communication and confidence with clients. I’ve learned so much in my first 4 months as an adviser and continue to learn every day.

How important has it been to have a career pathway?

Extremely important. Understanding the next steps in my journey from the beginning has allowed me to stay focused and determined to achieve each of my goals.

Founder and CFO, Claire Taddei, was also keen to recognise the hard work Liz and Andy have undertaken during the scheme….

“One of our main focus points this year is our career development programme and to offer a clear career pathway for all our team, across all departments.

I am really delighted with the progress so far and Liz and Andy are great examples of how we can support our team in achieving their career goals."
