Our top stress reducing tips when moving home

Moving home is an exciting and happy time. Once you find the right house and mortgage for your needs, you can finally begin to feel like everything is coming together. However, it can also be an emotional time, whether you’re moving alone or with your family. You may be moving out of a family home that holds lots of memories, or perhaps it’s your first time moving away. We understand that it can be both a happy and sad time.

There may be unexpected issues that are out of your control,  such as a delay on your moving date, issues with removal men etc. but we can share our tips to help keep the stress at bay!

Ask for help if needed

Never suffer alone. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, it’s always best to talk to someone. Even if they aren’t moving with you or live near to you, they can still offer emotional support. And remember, you aren’t the only one who finds moving home stressful. 40% of homeowners rank moving home the most stressful event in their life!

Declutter

Get ahead of the game and declutter as much as you can before you move . Throw away any old and unnecessary item that you don’t use or wear – do you really need that jacket that you haven’t worn for over a year?

Cutting down on any items you don’t use will save you time and stress when it comes to the packing process, and ensures you’re only taking what you really need.

Keep it real

List all the key things you’d like to get done and then break it down into manageable chunks. Instead of tackling everything at once and feeling like it’s never ending, start with one box at a time. For example, focus on packing and cleaning one room before moving on to the next. This way you can start to tick more off your list, which will keep you focused and motivated.

Take a break

Even though you’re extremely busy, it’s still important to take a break and some time for yourself. Try and get  outdoors for a walk or spend time with some friends. Also, eating and sleeping well will help everything else fall into place.
