As the weather is starting to get a little warmer, we start to spend more time outside. Are you thinking of a new decked seating area or even extending your home to make it a more sociable are? The good news is you can use your remortgage to create your ideal garden space.

Where do I start?

Remortgage means taking out a new mortgage with a new lender or transferring your current mortgage with the same lender. If you are planning home improvements, such as a garden makeover, you can use your remortgage to release some of your home’s equity to pay for your transformation.

Is there anything I need to take into consideration?

It is important to take into consideration all possible costs that may occur, such as an arrangement fee and a valuation fee. As well as this you may need to pay an early repayment charge if you leave your current mortgage deal before it ends.

Can I change my garden on a budget?

We know the cost of living is increasing and spending money on your garden may not be ideal right now which is why we have put together our top tips for getting your garden ready for summer.

Dig the weeds out!

We know those weeds can be tough and a lot of effort to pull out but getting rid of any unwanted weeds can help make the garden look a lot tidier. We recommend using a weed killer first and then removing them, it may help if you have a few hands to help with this one.

Solar lights

Small fairy lights, string of lanterns or larger bulbs can help bring a garden to life on the summer nights. Solar lights are a great, eco friendly way to help light up your garden without the added electricity and expense to go with it. There are plenty of affordable solar lights in many garden centres and they can really give your garden a cosy feel.

Add an outside rug

Now we know what you may be thinking, a rug? Outside? But an outside rug can add a real homely feeling to your garden and can also add some colour. It is a great way to dress up your patio without the cost of getting a new one!

DIY Garden Bar

Are you thinking of entertaining this summer? A DIY bar is great way to impress your guests. There is no need to buy an expensive bar when you can just update an old potting bench or an old shelf with outdoor paint and fairy lights, some coloured glass ware and your favourite beverages can help bring the look together.

Get planting

Lastly, we know gardening isn’t for everyone or you may not have the space for many flowers but adding some plants into your garden can really add some life and colour.  It is a good idea to research beforehand on what plants last well in the summer seasons to ensure you are spending time and money on the right plant. Hanging baskets are another great option if you are struggling for space but would still like your garden to be bright, choose plants such as fuchsias, verbena or petunias.
