Are you looking for advice on how to deal with the increasing cost of living? We asked our mortgage advisers for their top tips on how to save money. Here’s what they had to say:

Review your broadband, TV and phone

Kam: “I always tell my customers to make sure they are on the cheapest rate for their broadband, TV and phone. There are some great comparison sites such as MoneySuperMarket to help you quickly compare deals from other suppliers.”

Use your bike

Tom: “I’ve started cycling wherever possible. It’s saved me a fortune on fuel and meant I could cancel my gym membership too!”

Review your direct debits

Charlotte: “I recently reviewed all my direct debits and found I was paying for multiple streaming services and two subscription services that I hardly ever use.”

Wash with a cold cycle

Emily: “I saw this in a TV ad and I was skeptical at first but after trying it a few times, my clothes come out just as clean, and I’m saving money. It’s also better for the clothes so I should get more wear out of them now.”

Pay for prescriptions in advance

Nick: “This is something I only found out about recently. The NHS have a service where you can buy a prescription prepayment certificate (PPC). If you’re going to need more than three prescriptions in three months, or 11 prescriptions in 12 months, it will definitely save you money.”

Rent out parking spaces

Craig: “My colleague taught me about this great trick. They've got space for two cars on their driveway, but only have one car, so they started using an app called ‘Your Parking Space’ and rented out one of the spaces. It's really easy to do and has been very popular so far.”

Review your mortgage

Daniel: “I know, I’m a mortgage adviser, so you would expect me to say this, but it really is worth doing. So many people could be on a cheaper rate but don’t realise. We don’t charge a fee for the initial conversation and are happy to chat through your options.”
