Nisha Bharath-Parmar sadly lost both her father and child during the height of the pandemic in 2020. As a Mortgage and Protection Adviser, she understands the value of protection but never thought she’d need to claim herself.

Nisha is sharing her real-life experiences in the hope of bringing attention to how being prepared can protect you if the worst were to happen.

Nisha’s story

‘My Dad passed away unexpectedly on my birthday in 2020. I was 8 months pregnant at the time.

A few years ago I took out a life insurance policy for him– I wasn’t working as an adviser back then, but I could see that he had a need to be covered. The fact he had life insurance meant that the financial impact on my family was greatly reduced, and we could concentrate on honouring his life.

My son Prem was born a month after my dad passed, bringing some light and joy at a time of grief. His cheeky smile and calm nature brought us such happiness.

Prem passed away from SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) in October 2020.

As you can imagine, this was a horrific event to go through in addition to losing dad. The last thing I needed to worry about was the financial impact it had on my life – paying bills, going to work etc. Luckily, I had an income protection policy in place so the worry was taken care of. Not everybody has family or a support network that can afford to help them out financially at such a difficult time, so it’s important to make sure that you look after YOU.

Something I always say to my clients is “We’ve got your protection in place now, but I hope you never have to use it”. I’m going to carry on doing what I’ve done best for nearly a decade – I want to make it my mission to protect as many people as I can. I’ve lived through it; I know how protecting yourself can benefit you.’
