When Lewis and Rachel first welcomed their daughter into the world, what should have been the happiest of times quickly became every parent’s worst nightmare, as Lewis explains:

“Our daughter was born very sick suffering from Meconium Aspiration Syndrome and spent 17 days in NICU - 9 days of which she was ventilated. Overall, she spent just over three weeks in hospital, receiving the most amazing care from both Nottingham and Derby City Hospital.

“It was the hardest moment of our lives; we were scared and didn't know what was going to happen. It was overwhelming and we had conflicting emotions between it being the best day of our lives but also the scariest.”

Like many parents-to-be, Lewis and Rachel had reviewed the protection they had in place with one of our expert advisers. Rob was able to arrange the right protection to suit their changing needs. This included critical illness cover which is similar to life insurance but pays out on the diagnosis of certain illnesses, as opposed to only paying on death.

Once their daughter was home safely, having responded well to treatment, Lewis and Rachel were able to make a claim on their critical illness insurance. Here, Lewis talks about what it meant to them knowing that they had the right insurance in place.

“Knowing that we would have the means to give our daughter the best start in life meant everything. We didn't know if she would suffer any long-term effects, but having an insurance policy in place meant we knew that we would be able to support her through anything. Luckily, she has made a full recovery, and it now means that with the insurance settlement, we’ll be able to give her everything she deserves and more.”

For many people sorting out their insurances is something they put off, or rush by visiting price comparison sites. But when it comes to insurance there are several things to be considered, not just how much it costs. One key thing missing from comparison sites is expert advice about what your policy covers and what cover would best suit your needs.

Thankfully Lewis and Rachel had spoken to an adviser, so they had the right cover in place. For anyone else thinking about reviewing their protection, Lewis and Rachel have this advice for you:

“Make sure you get the best cover you can, but also ensure you get the best advice you can because dealing with these insurances at the time is not the first thing you tend to think of. We knew we had sound advice from Rob who explained the ins and outs of critical illness cover when taking out our mortgage.

“You never know what is around the corner. When something like this happens it not only rocks your world emotionally, but can have a significant impact on finances. With the right cover in place, whilst dealing with a tough situation, you’ll at least have the peace of mind of financial security.”

Insurance gives you peace of mind and financial security, should the worse happen. If you’re thinking of reviewing your current protection, our team expert advisers are here to help so please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
