Frequently asked questions

Why do I need mortgage advice?

Getting a mortgage is likely to be one of the biggest financial decisions you'll ever make, and it's important you make a choice that suits your circumstances. A mortgage adviser can search the market on your behalf and recommend the right deal for you.

How do I apply for a mortgage?

The process involves providing lots of information to lenders (and filling out a whole lot of forms). Being well prepared is key and can make the process move smoothly. For more guidance, check out ourĀ comprehensive guide.

How do I get a mortgage if I'm self-employed?

Being self-employed doesn't mean you can't get a mortgage. Ensuring your books are all up-to-date and keeping a clear record of your finances can help strengthen your position as a borrower. In this case, we'd recommend speaking with a mortgage adviser to find out what you need to do.

What is remortgaging?

Remortgaging is the process of taking out a new loan to cover your previous mortgage. Remortgaging can come with plenty of benefits, from releasing equity in your home to the potential to save money on your monthly repayments. Check out our remortgaging guide for more information.

What is protection?

Protection secures your family and home against the worst-case scenario. It's also important to note that your needs are likely to change throughout your life. Perhaps you're moving jobs, starting a family, or even downsizing. These are all things you need to consider when looking at protection.

Do I need to have a Will in place to get a mortgage?

No, having a Will in place is not a requirement for getting approved for a mortgage.

However, having a Will is generally recommended for everyone regardless of their mortgage situation. It ensures your wishes for your estate are carried out after you pass away, which can avoid complications for your loved ones during an already difficult time.

I cannot thank Sairah enough for her outstanding service throughout my mortgage journey! She went above and beyond, keeping me calm, reassured and informed every step of the way. Her dedication was truly exceptional, especially ensuring I received my mortgage approval before she went on holiday. She genuinely cares about her clients, and her professionalism, patience and support were second to none. I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better service! Sairah is an absolute credit to her profession, and I cannot recommend her highly enough. Thank you so much, Sairah!

This is a tough one to rate. The Mortgage Advice Bureau are many different brokers working under the umbrella of the MAB. The first broker I spoke to offered me a mortgage at over 6% and told me this was the only mortgage I could get. I then received a call from another MAB, which confused me. They were so much better and offered me a mortgage with a high street bank at just over 4%. The first broker I spoke to were not helpful at all, whilst the second one was brilliant.

Our advisor, Simon has been fantastic throughout the process. He has kept us informed at every stage and explained our options in a very clear way so we could understand amidst all the jargon! It's been quite a stressful process and Simon has remained calm, professional and reassuring throughout. I would highly recommend Simon!
