Most people dream of living in the best place in England, but for those residents of Beverley, it’s a dream come true! Beverley was proud to pick up the award for 'Best Place to Live in England' by both Affordable Affluence and The Sunday Times - and it's not difficult to see why. With a history dating back to the seventh century, it's since grown and developed to become the charming, East Yorkshire market town we know and love today.

Here’s four things we love most about Beverley:

Beverley Minster

This beautiful Gothic-style cathedral opened its doors in the eighth century on the site of a monastery and is now one of the largest parish churches in the UK. As well as a prominent place of worship, the Minster has become a popular tourist attraction. This is thanks to its beauty and regular community events, such as art installations and the annual Christmas tree festival.

Racecourse

Since opening in its doors in 1690, Beverley Racecourse has become a firm fixture on the area’s social scene. Royalty have visited the racecourse several times, and the venue also runs a variety of race days and other events throughout the year too. The racecourse is a short stroll into the centre of Beverley too, which is handy when you’re looking for somewhere to enjoy a spot of dinner and a few drinks when the day’s fixtures have ended.

East Riding Theatre (ERT)

Based in a converted church, ERT opened in 2014 and has served as a venue for comedy and theatre ever since. The company has an impressive list of supporters - Dame Judi Dench is a Patron, Vincent Regan serves as Creative Director, and John Godber is an ambassador.

Emerging retail and hospitality sector

Over the past decade, Beverley has truly blossomed into a thriving and lively hub to visit for a spot of shopping, drinking and dining. Many high-end brands now have stores in the area including Joules, Browns, Space NK and The White Company.
