If you are looking to move house this year or are thinking of moving your mortgage, there’s a few simple steps you can take to get yourself into the best position possible.

At Mortgage Advice Bureau we call them our “3 golden rules”.

Last time I talked about affordability, so now we are going to look into that in a little more detail with Golden Rule number 2…Paperwork and Preparation.

Whilst many processes are now far quicker as technology has allowed us to do more online, there is still a fair amount of information that any mortgage provider will need as they consider your application.

First of all, most will require three months’ bank statements and three months’ pay slips.

You are also going to need to dig out some proofs of address and identity.

Now there’s very few of us with the perfect filing system at home but a little bit of diligence here can make all the difference in the long run and it will ultimately save you a lot of time and hassle too.

As ever, you can call me or anyone on our talented team of fully qualified mortgage advisers to discuss this but in the meantime, you might want to take a look at this handy checklist that we’ve put together to help you prepare for a mortgage appointment.

I hope you find that useful, next time I will delve into the world of credit scores and what you can do to check it and improve it if need be.
